Welcoming Baby Ceremonies…The Story of Maxi’s Ceremony
“You are the goddess mother. You have mothered me. You called me in my dark times and loved me like a mother would love a child. Even though you don’t have children of your own, you are my mother goddess, and I want you to be Max’s mother goddess. A goddess mother guides the “child mother” which I am and helps me to be the best mommy I can be.” These words were spoken to me through misty eyes one night before Max was born. My friend and Nia teacher, Julie, and I were chatting about the birth of her first baby. Being the newly selected mother goddess, I felt strongly that the baby should be welcomed once he was born and celebrated within his community. Julie and I talked about what that would be, how it would look, and I found myself offering to host the event. I had never been to any welcoming baby ceremonies, so leading one was new territory. However, I felt up to the task.
In the beginning, I just allowed for ideas to come in. Envisioning myself as the vessel of Gods plan for this ceremony was the approach I used. The very first idea came to me one morning as I was waking up. I saw clearly a white room with white candles, white clothing, and a white blanket. To me, the white symbolized innocence and newness of life. Several weeks later the second idea emerged…a white blanket for Max to lay upon and all of Max’s community surrounding him in the circle. As I sat with that image, it became clearer. The blanket became the focal point, and attached to the blanket was ribbon. I saw each person holding a piece of the ribbon. The community was showing its connection and love toward Max.
Clearer and clearer pieces of the welcoming ceremony came together as the weeks passed until a complete picture surfaced. I knew my intention was to provide Maxi and his parents with a space to celebrate the blessing of a new life, a space to solidify the sense of community, and a space where love for Max could be held and collected. My intention was luminous. An unwavering thought that manifested brilliantly.
Since the ceremony has passed, I have thought often of the organic process that occurred while planning. I felt my way through each step and stayed open to receiving what the universe was offering. Because of all of the positive emotion that I was emitting around the event, the manifestation was flawlessly realized. I have learned that staying open and trusting is the way to manifest what it is that I want.
May I continue to create experiences in my life that manifest through love and faith. May you find ways to do this as well.
