Famous Mark Twain Quotes on Life, a Journal Writing Prompt
Here’s a famous Mark Twain Quote on Life, “Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you too can become great.”
For today’s journal writing prompts I encourage you to do the following:
- Make a list of people who belittle your ambitions
- Consider how you can stay away from them, if this is really what you want, or at least turn your subject matter with this person to something else. In fact make the belittler the focus of conversation not you (as “small” people would tend to prefer themselves as the center of attention) and simply allow them to be without judgment.
- Then get rid of this list. It’s simply for comparison and contrast.
- Now make a list of all the people that support, love, encourage and honor you.
- What is it that they support, love and honor you for.
- Appreciate this and create a list of new things you
want to be supported, loved, encouraged and honored for.
Now that you have your journal writing prompts, here’s my take on this quote on life from Mark Twain:
So, I do appreciate the message here, but I would make some modifications. The term “Small people” suggests superiority over another when I feel a more “evolved” or appropriate perspective on all of life is to appreciate that we are all at a different place in our conscious awareness. I would loosely define “small people” as those that do not appreciate our own level of perspective and awareness. They are not there yet and have a limited point of view….at this moment.
I love the analogy from “Conversations with God” books which says that if you appreciate that all of life is going through school at one level or another (and age has nothing to do with it), then you would not call someone “small” if you realized that they were still in nursery school on a subject while you were in high school on the same subject. You would simply appreciate and understand their perspective and allow them their way.
We all know who the “small people” are in our lives. It is best to keep your ambitions to yourself and share them only with those that support you. Vibrationally, those that support you are in alignment with your greatest potential and assist you in maintaining your alignment. “Small people” don’t help you and send your alignment “vibrationally” in the opposite direction.
Don’t give negative attention to those in your life that you would consider “small”. This is an invitation to only offer compassion and kindness and allow them to “be right”. This way of being is much more in alignment with who you really are and who you want to be. …again:
“Setting an example is not the main means of influencing others; it is the only means.”—Einstein

We see things not as they are…HM Tomlinson Quote
“We see things not as they are but as we are”…a quote by HM Tomlinson.
At our Seeds of Intentions blog we like to consider inspirational quotes as journal writing prompts. It also offers us an opportunity to set our own intentions differently and from another perspective.
Here’s our take on this Hm Tomlinson quote:
What we can take from this is that we all have our own filters of perception and perspective. Many of us have a “rut” of perception and perspective. The opportunity here is to appreciate that we are all here to create and express in our own unique and divine way, but we as humans tend to perceive through the state or filter we are in at any given moment. So if you tend to be cynical, or one that has to be “right”, then you limit your experience to your “rutted” way of being…..
Divinity is limitless and infinite and cares to express throughout eternity.
Knowing that divinity, and all of us for that matter, is all eternal, why not allow all things to be seen from that perspective…as divine expression at all levels?
Don’t you love to be appreciated for your unique contribution? Then feel that same way for another and offer that to another by being open to another way.
Appreciate that we are all expressing at our own level of awareness and in the best way we know how for any given moment. This is where compassion and kindness make it easy to be open and loving and to come into the experience of “…seeing things as they truly are…not as we are”
Your life experiences become rich when you open yourself to limitless ways of being, expressing, and creating in this world. I invite you to practice this and see for yourself.

Set Yourself Free
Light will someday split you open even if your life is now a cage.
Hafiz

Each one of us, I’m certain of it, has felt enclosed in the cage of life. Whether it’s being caged by negative thinking, caged by the past, or caged for some other reason, we have all experienced the sensation of being trapped. Guess what? We can set ourselves free as well! We can allow the light within us to split us open and release all the potential that has been hidden away. We can release the negative thinking. We can release our past. How do we do this? We do this by changing our thoughts. Our thoughts create our reality. Our thoughts create our sense of being caged or of being free. We can do this by living in the present. That means staying fully awake in this moment. For instance right now, as I’m writing this, I have awakened to birds chirping and the soft summer breeze blowing.
What are you waiting for? Open that cage door, fly free, and let the light engulf your whole being!
As a journal writing prompt, write down those things that make you feel like you’re enclosed in a cage. Next, release those prisons by putting them in a bowl and burning them. Then write from the perspective of being free from those thoughts that are holding you back. For instance, I might write, “My body image places me in a cage and holds me back.” After I burn this, I might write, “I move easily through the world. When I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror, I love what I see.”

Today’s Journal Writing Prompts and the Power of Intention
Today’s journal writing prompts and journal writing topics are on the notion of accepting responsibility for everything that shows up in your life. Take FULL RESPONSIBILITY for it, Good or Bad!
As you peruse our various blogs (Our Spiritual Blog, Our Law of Attraction Blog, and our Blooms of Intentions products) you may discover that this theme is present throughout all of our blog posts and articles.
Additionally, we appreciate the power of intention and encourage you to become very conscious of the things that you intend for your life. We’d like to encourage setting intentions on many topics. Using a journal for writing down that which you intend for your life is a powerful tool for becoming the deliberate creator of your own life!
So…back to today’s journal writing prompt and journal writing topic:
Accepting responsibility for everything that shows up in your life.
You’ve “Asked for it” and now you’ve got it……(You could easily create a whole writing journal on this topic alone!)
Here’s where to begin….
(it’s much easier to understand where we’re coming from if you understand the Law of Attraction or the messages found in the movie The Secret as well as The Secret the book. For more on this subject you may want to visit our Law of Attraction Blog…but let’s just say much of what I am sharing is based on my experience with this topic)
- Observe what is coming into your experience of life
- Consider how it is that you may have attracted whatever it is that you are experiencing (be it desirable or undesirable)
- Know that you have created this experience whether you are aware of it or not
- Understand that anything you give your attention to, be it positive or negative you are adding to your bag of “things” you are inviting into you life
- Just because you are thinking about something you DON’T want doesn’t mean it won’t show up. If you give your attention to it, in any fashion, positive or negative, you are including it in your vibrational mix and telling life to bring it towards you (of course there’s alot more to all of this than I’m including here, but go with this for the moment…because I personally have mountains of evidence and life experiences to suggest it is true…as do you if you really stop to consider it)
- In your journal, start noticing what is showing up for you.
- Consider what, in your patterns of thought and belief ,may have brought it to you.
- Now start, using the power of intention, setting intentions for only that which you DO want to experience in your life!
- If you don’t like what’s showing up, start focusing on the topic of what you do want to experience in your life.
- If you do like what’s showing up. Continue to feel appreciation for that which you do enjoy in your life.
- Watch as your experiences change to fit that which you truly, in your heart, appreciate and care to experience.
You’re the artist. Life is your canvas. Your paints are the thoughts and beliefs you hold about anything and everything. What do you choose to paint today? A Masterpiece…or something else. You get to choose. “You get all the credit!”….from Abraham and the Teachings of Abraham.
